the beauty of the koi

was such that
I put down my camera
and suddenly
I could see
their scales
like dragon pinecones
their mouths
like bellows gulping
their fins
like procrastinating satin
their flesh
like singing from India

in the first photo, it looks like they're swimming up to say hello.
aren't they? they were so tame (looking for hand-outs, really) :)
