what a night.

What a night. Battles with a head cold, Tim's away, and the dog ate the trash (the chickeny-bacony trash.) It's also freezing outside.

I took myself out to dinner, the only thing I thought might save my day.

I ordered handmade fettuccine with grilled portobellos and chicken with toasted pumpkin seeds in a butternut squash sauce, and I buried my mind in my paperback, The Fellowship of the Ring.

And just as I put my book down to wipe the last traces of sauce from my plate, the waiter came over and said, "Some folks bought you a cookie."

And he put a chocolate-chip cookie down in front of me.

"They just left. They said they like to read, too."

Your post reminded me of it, except in your situation it was a totally random act of kindness. I really appreciate what a testament such acts are to our ability to be generous and selfless.
