beets, bees and basil

bee on the cosmos grown year by year
from the seeds of my great-aunt evelyn's garden

We planted beets and basil today, our feet bare on the soil. There is a pumpkin vine growing from the compost pile, full of large orange blooms. I am still waiting for the hummingbirds, and for the rain.

I love how sometimes, when I let the dogs out at night, I see a spot of white on the lawn ~ the white of the cat's breast as she sits out there on the clover, poised like a statue. I think she is watching the stars.

this post is pure lyric and poem.

"feet bare on the soil"... i just love that.

and we're waiting on rain here, as well. such a deep and cellular yearning. when it comes-- there is always that moment of--- "yes...this is what we've all been needing."

ps-- when your basil comes in--- please please please make some basil/lemon infused water. i've been obsessed with it and have been sharing the recipe with anyone who has access to the fresh stuff :)

Ah Brooke ~ such a beautiful Polaroid. I love the image of Mimi star~gazing. Please give all your lovely beasties a hug from me x x x

I love the idea of Mimi out star-gazing. Or soaking in the moonlight. Cats seem more ancient than dogs; it would make sense.

I have a cat that visits our backyard in the afternoon, sleeps in my garden beds on her back. She's got a white belly too. We think she owns the whole neighbourhood but makes our backyard her sleeping place. We feel most honoured.

Jojo ~ yep, I learn a lot from watching her! She is so good on being where she is, unlike me, who is usually trying to be somewhere else, if only in mind. :)

Alfie ~ a deep and cellular yearning, yes! I am still waiting for the rain....

Keia ~ :) that is a nice image too, her star-counting.

B. ~ :)

Helen ~ will do!

Elizabeth ~ she was for sure soaking in some moonlight. If I hadn't gone out, I never would have seen it. Cats are also way more ancient than dogs, I agree! Compared to Mimi, the dogs are a pair of puffbrains. Lovable and loyal puffbrains. Don't tell them I told you that though.

the good soup ~ She sleeps on her back in your garden beds! Now that's awesome. :)
