her house

...was amazing. I love visiting friend's houses and seeing how their day-to-day is. There were hummingbirds buzzing through the backyard ~ hefty ones, not like the east coast's ruby throated miniatures. My room was a little bright back one by the garden under a roof overgrown with trumpetvine ~ over which I could hear the neighbor's cat quietly picking her way each night. Bougainvillea, roses and succulents lined the neighbors' yards, and the salt of the sea wafted all the way up the street, where we could watch a portion of the sun on the waves from her front porch. We walked down the beach to Santa Monica Pier and went on the ferris wheel, and at the top, I could imagine the coast as it would have been a thousand years ago, fierce waves and wind blurring the sunset into the mountains.

It was a home to come home to.

These are beautiful pictures Brooke. It looks like a fabulous home, and I love seeing it through your eyes. It's wonderful to have a "home to come home to", that's not home, you know what I mean? Somewhere that's as relaxed as home, but not quite so familiar. For me, it's my aunt's house where things change but the atmosphere stays the same :)

So many amazing details in these shots...I can't pick my favorite! And Santa Monica...wow. I spent a few weeks there once and I can't seem to rid myself of its magic, ever :)

Oh, it was such a treat to have you here! Those little paintings beside my books are ones my grandmother did of me as a little girl (she did them for all of her granddaughters). She would be tickled to know those images are in circulation.

I think of you every day as I breathe in the beauty of your poetry, polaroids and altered books around our home.

It looks wonderful. I love the tea set. I have a friends how which is clean, beautiful and stylish but calm and cosy, I feel like that's my 'home that's not home'.
And thank you, you solved a mystery for me, now I know that the beutiful pink trumpet plant which I couldn't find in my referance book is called trumpetvine.
