The days are long and full of tactile things ~ the quiet of studio work, yoga twice a week, homemade bread, neighborhood strolls by myself, good books*, sunshine, yellow tulips. (And, as always the familiar cadences of the daily challenges: dirty dishes, spilled coffee, vacuuming again, walking the dogs again, lost tempers, fatigue, wood stove mess, ants in the cat food, the mysterious something smelly in the fridge. You know. The balances of Normal Life.)
Collecting empty boxes for the move, answering calls from strangers who might end up being our tenants in our present house, planning for the new house (we sign next thursday). Visions of what furniture goes where in the new place float through my head. The yellow velvet couch in the great room, in front of the fireplace? The enamel-topped table in the kitchen corner as a journal/coffee spot? A few extra loveseats to be thrifted for special out-of-the-way nooks, for reading and writing and sipping tea and chatting and thinking and staring out the windows. White walls, lots of white walls to reflect sunshine. Mirrors to hang. Rugs to unroll. Fiestaware to unpack. Two dogs and a cat to introduce to their new stomping grounds. Watermelon seeds and grape tomatoes to plant. Garden plants to move, herbs to divide, bulbs to tuck in. Mystery sprouts to identify and delight in. Bat boxes to build. Vines and pricker tendrils to clear. A path to trim through eleven acres of trees. All my terra cotta mint pots to edge the wooden porch. A baby belly to sun. A new library to explore. A lake with whom to make an acquaintance.
We are beyond excited, in the realm of happy contentment. There is nothing to do but wait.
What do you love about your house? What makes it feel like home?

congratulations! planning for a new home is one of the most exciting things - i love dreaming of where furniture will go, etc.
How wonderful your life sounds at the moment! I'm excited to see what your new space will look like.
I love projects, so I'm never really at peace with my home and I'm always planning for some change or improvement. There's lots I do love though, all the afternoon light, the 1920's character of the moldings and built-in hutch, the window near my stove...
You're joy is bubbling up, right through my screen! So happy for you and Tim...your new home, new baby.I love that you have an appreciation for both the wonderful and not~so~wonderful things that come with huge changes.
What I love about my home...besides the people, the space...the light...is the sense of history, the sense of those who have come before me...
It is great to read how full of hope and great plans you are right now. Exiting times...
What I love about our home are the huge windows that always let in lots of light and the bedroom that is facing the garden and therefore allows us to sleep without the curtains closed, because there are no street lights shining in.
Happy contentment is a beautiful place to rest. Enjoy.
What I love most about home is the shared experiences we have inside, and all of the little objects that remind us of those special moments.
beautiful thoughts and life!
our home,,, don't know where to start on my likes... :)
let's see, our huge arched living-room window with a wild prairie view - nature is framed as God's living masterpiece.
our home is new and it took a year to design, and then 6 months to build. it's a dream come true for me and my husband. everything is new this time, we are making memories and forging it's character - most important it is filled with peace.
Ah...this all sounds so nice, even with the ants in the cat food. ;)
Planning for a new space is one of my favorite things - or even re-arranging an old one. Fun!
I love our early 50's ranch style house and yard - it's been good to us and is the backdrop of our everyday life.
